About Me

Hello! My name’s Dale, nice to meet you. I’m glad that you stopped by to learn a little bit more about me. Ever since growing up, I have always been fascinated with computers, technology, and learning new things. I also have a strong sense of adventure. I joined the US Navy after High School as a means to pursue both paths at the same time. This experience was fantastic, as it provided me with many experiences. The work ethic, discipline, and tenacity that I learned is something that I carry to this day. After many years, the toils of service didn’t mesh well with my family life so I ended my Active Duty service, though I stuck around in the Navy Reserves and later retired. I soon graduated with my BS in Computer Systems from City University of Seattle, continuing to chase my passion for technology and learning. I have recently decided to further my education and have started a Masters in Applied Computer Science program at Dakota State University. I’ve have also spent the last 6 years as a civilian working with the Navy as a Client Side IT Administrator. I find this work very satisfying as I get to solve many difficult issues, connect with people, and help them with their technology issues. As fun as this profession is, it hasn’t been able to satisfy my need to create. I began dabbling with web development to combine my love of technology, my appetite to learn new things, as well as my desire to create something out of thin air. Out of luck, I was presented with the opportunity to build a site for money. You know, the real kind that you can spend on things and is hard to come by! This excitement appealed to my sense of adventure and at that moment Home Brewed Code was born. I’m looking forward to the journey ahead!

Why Home Brewed Code?

The name Home Brewed Code stems from the idea of quality and craftsmanship that is tied to home brewed beer. As opposed to mass producing large quantities of a generic product, home brewers craft their product by hand making something special out of blood, sweat, tears, and love. This is the same approach that I take to development and the same high quality product that I strive to deliver.

My Skills

As you could guess, Web Development requires a large skillset that is always changing. I work hard to update my skills and learn new things. I am currently skilled HTML, CSS, Javascript, jQuery, PHP, MySQL, Photoshhop, and Illustrator. I like to keep my skills up to date, so this list is constantly growing.

Skills I’m Developing

As I mentioned above, the tech scene is vast, and there is always something new and interesting to learn. I’m am currently interested in or just starting my journey in learning the following:  Ruby, Rails, NodeJS, Python, Go, Elixir and Phoenix, and Software Security. The learning never stops, but this is what makes the fieled so fun!
